Gemini Knits Handpainted Yarns & Fibres

Got my yarn ready for the KAL which is starting on Monday 13th June 2011.

I’m using 2 of my yarns, a handspun in browns, greys and blue and for the top, heel and toe I’m going to use Silver Midnight a bamboo/merino yarn.

A lovely lady came along to our knitting night a few weeks back and patiently sat with my friend and I and taught us the crochet basics.  I think I was ‘hooked’ from then.  Haha!This is my first go……Is a mix of trebles and double crochets.A few days later with the help of The Happy Hooker book I learnt to go around in a circle…..And then yesterday I attempted my first granny square.  It did not go well at first!!I’ve been lent a book of 200 crochet squares so I am going to carry on with the squares and make a baby blanket with different patterns.Having been knitting for 5 and a half years now and spinning for 1 and a half, it is quite strange to learn a new skill again.  I’m not the most patient of people and I expect I was exactly the same when learning the other 2, but I want to know everything about crochet now!!!  It has also opened up new possibilities for some of my stash which I just can’t find anything to knit with.  Obviously now I also have another excuse to spend even more time on Ravelry looking at all the patterns Sarah

This is my first handspun yarn from my new wheel…. It did look like this the other day before I put it on the niddy noddy to rewind it.Then the small one got hold of it!I think it would be a laceweight but its a single ply so its gone all lovely and curly.  I think I’ll keep it like this, I love the springy-ness  Sarah

Last week after much deliberation (well a few days!) of which one to get, my new wheel arrived!  Meet my brand spanking new Ashford Traveller!  Haven’t officially named her yet, but I like “Gertie”. In Pieces All assembled!First yarn I’ve spun on her  Its a 100% merino dyed by me.  Am loving spinning on her, my spinning is already a lot finer.  Laceweight here I come!
